Introduction

🇺🇸 Preblast 9/11 Black Panther🇺🇸
There are very few events in a lifetime that stick with you forever. 20 years ago, the events that unfolded that day were one of those. If you were old enough, you will remember where you were and what you were doing when it all unfolded.

Come join YHC tomorrow morning to walk in the shoes of those who braved and sacrificed their lives as we honor the victims and heroes of that day.

You will need your coupon, heart and compassion as we help each other through the workout just as those brave men and women helped the victims.

We will plan to start at 6:59a as that is the time (Central Time) that the first plane took off from Boston. As the workout unfolds, so too will the timeline of events from 9/11.

Come join me in what is sure to be a memorable workout. We will work, but we will also pause periodically to remember.

HC below if you can make it.

Warm-O-Rama

We began the workout at 6:59a CT with Whitney Houston’s Super Bowl rendition of the National Anthem.

Next, we jumped into WoR with the following.

Good Mornings x10

Tappy Taps x15

Imperial Walkers x20

Motivators from 8

The Thang

Thang 1

We took our coupons to the base of the hill. In the World Trade Center there were 110 stories that firefighters tried to climb. This equates to roughly 2,000 steps.

We took this time to try walking in their shoes. The task was to traverse the hill by walking up and down, with coupon if able, a total of 18 times.

Thang 2

At pavilion with coupons we did a version of the 9/11 Tribute WOD. Due to time and IR status, we did not complete the 2001 meter run. However, we did do the following:

343 reps signifying the number of firefighters lost that day – 7 rounds of the following exercises:

9 thrusters

11 burpees

9 box jumps

11 curls

9 merkins

We capper the workout in the parking lot with 110 walking lunges, signifying the height of the WTC.

For 6MoM we did the following:

Boxcutters x20

Heel touches x20

Swimmers x30

Stargazers

Circle of Trust

Here we prayed for all those lost 20 years ago, and for several PAX families and friends.

Naked Man Moleskin

A week or two ago, I saw this Q was open and it didn’t conflict with soccer. While there was no formal edict to do a 9/11 workout, it was the only thing I thought to do. The question was how to do it appropriately.

We had a good number of PAX attend and I think it worked out well. The Star Spangled Banner playing was sort of impromptu, yet I thought it appropriate.

9/11 was a moment in life that we will never forget. Here is the timeline of events that happened that day. Coincidentally, they Central Time version of them fit well into the workout and I had alarms for each of these as they happened during our workout.

6:59a CT – AA11 takes off from BOS

7:14a – UA175 takes off from BOS

7:20a – AA77 takes off from DC

7:41a – UA94 takes off from EWR

7:46a – AA11 crashes into North Tower

8:03a – UA175 crashes into South Tower

8:37a – AA77 crashed into Pentagon

8:59a – South Tower collapses

9:07a – UA94 crashes in PA

9:28a – North Tower collapses

2,996 people killed including hijackers, another 2000+ from illnesses attributed to events

It is unbelievable that 9/11 was 20 years ago. I remember that morning and day pretty vividly as I was about 4 months into my first “real job”.  I could not keep my eyes off the news and it was just so surreal.

I hope everyone in attendance yesterday appreciated the workout. I thought it went well and was a good tribute, and a sneaky burner of a workout.
