Introduction

BDRC – 8/10/2022 – Veteran’s Park
Team Running for all paces
Training will help all running F3 5k (did you know this is coming up in September??) and Ragnar

Parking lot is just east of Washington off of Gartner

Warm-O-Rama

Tappy Taps in cadence x10

Quad stretch for about 30

800 M warm up run as a group

The Thang

Starting point by the bench where path starts and our flags were planted

Split into 2 teams

Team 1 — Glenn, Ball Boy, Sam Walton, Stay Puft, Lightfoot

Team 2 — Serena, Harbaugh, Shells n Cheese, Hootie, Bush Push

One direction from the starting point was an 800 M out and back.  First 400 M were uphill

Other direction from starting point was a 1600 M out and back.  Relatively flat except for a decent, short hill right before the turn around point.

Each person had to complete a minimum of three 800 M runs and three 1600 M runs at your fastest pace possible for each.  After each completion grab a lego and put it into your team’s bucket.  15 second rest between each run.

After completing the minimum each PAX could choose which route to do until he hit 6:00.  Grab a lego again after each completion.

At 6:00 when Legos were counted Team 1 had 41 or 43 if you count the 2 that were dropped in right at 6:00 and Team 2 had 42.  Not much debate about who won since everyone was catching their breath.

Circle of Trust

I learned in a conversation this week a concept of approaching life with a Quiet Mind and Calm Heart.  Too many times I have gone into conversations or situations with family, friends, co-workers, etc more focused on getting my point across and/or being right and/or thinking about my response to what the person is saying.   I am Italian so debating/arguing is one of our national pasttimes.  Having a Quiet Mind and Calm Heart allows you to block out all the noise and focus on the person you are interacting with.  To truly hear what he or she is saying, process it in a more healthy manner and respond more thoughtfully and kindly versus emotionally.  Wanted to share so we could all think about how this could help us as husbands/fathers/men in our daily lives and relationships.

We prayed for God’s healing on Sam Walton’s friend Liz as she recovers from a car accident and subsequent surgery to save her eye sight and for Hot Box as he continues his fight with cancer.  Moment of silence for prayers in our heart and closed with The Lord’s Prayer

Naked Man Moleskin

As if Hootie wasn’t already one of the baddest dudes in F3 he came out and crushed his first BDRC.  His feats are incredible at any age but even more inspiring to see how fit he is in his 50’s.  Looking forward to having you at more BDRC’s.

My routes were marked a little longer than 800M and 1600M, needed more Legos and should have given more points for the extra 1600M legs.  Despite these shortcomings our first use of Veteran’s Park was well received by the crew.  The elevation changes added a surprising challenge for all (well except Serena since he defies physics and actually goes faster uphill).  Definitely several other route options we could use there too so I think more BDRC’s will be there.
