Grab your coupons… mosey to the middle of the field.

The Thang

Circle up in the field.

Faye liked collecting rocks. We don’t have rocks. We have blocks. And we’re gonna lift these blocks over our heads today to lift up Faye.

50 Thrusters

When tragedy strikes, as it did for Faye and her family, we cannot carry on alone. We need to carry each other through difficult times. Partner up. We’re doing firemen carrys.

Firemen carry. Approximately 50m. 2x.

Jog to across field to opposite parking lot.

Because Faye liked collecting rocks, we’re going to grab a rock here and keep it with us. We’re gonna hold on to this rock for the rest of the morning. It’s a reminder that we carry Faye with us.

Jog back to coupons. Gran the coupons and mosey to the top of the hill. Hold plank to all in.

Now that we have these rocks with us, we’re gonna do 25 Blockees with the rocks in our hands. Might be awkward, but we do this to remember that sometimes carrying the memory of someone can be difficult.

25 Blockees. Hold plank until all in.

Now look at this rock you’ve been carrying. This rock IS NOT a reminder of what we’ve lost, or of some evil thing that happened. This is a CELEBRATION OF LIFE. Faye, only 6 years old, had such an impact on those around her. She loved to write notes, to read, to sing and dance. How many THOUSANDS of people have been impacted by her, in positive ways, because of this tragedy? God can take the bad and make it good.

Think now about someone you’ve lost suddenly or tragically. Let this rock represent them. Don’t let it represent what you’ve lost though. Let it represent a celebration of life. As you execute 100 curls, think about this person and their life.

100 Curls. Hold plank until all in.

Now take this rock, and one by one, we’re gonna pile it under the bench here at the top of the Ridge Hill. No one but us will know what this pile is for. But as you set down your rock, say the name of the person you’re letting go. You’re not forgetting them – every time you look up at this hill you’ll remember them. But in our own way, we must let them go. This is how we focus on the celebration of life, rather than the loss of life.

Mosey back to flags with coupons.

Naked Man Moleskin

There seems to be a lot of tragedy floating around these days. Noonan and Bump, Evan, Party Boys dad. Faye. A lot of tears and heartache. I am reminded of something my father told me not too long ago – there’s just going to be a lot more of this the older you get. Padre?

You know, to me, the biggest single takeaway beyond God’s saving grace through salvation in his Son is HOPE. So many of us may feel like there isn’t hope, and that each loss reinforces a fearful anxiety of hopelessness. We believe in empty shells, of promises of fulfillment or abundance. It will all fail. But with God what better place to see the HOPE of God? The bible talks about how one day “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

That’s HOPE. Until then, on this side of heaven, we’re called to cling to this hope unswervingly, for He who promised is faithful. Sure, it’s hard. We don’t get up for easy. But let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
