Introduction

I was ready to go, bright and early because I couldn’t sleep last night for two reasons.  First, I knew Corningstone was coming and I couldn’t wait to put him through a few Indian runs because he bailed on my last Q.  Second, I couldn’t wait to try burpee bears!  Even though I knew how much Scotts hates burpees AND bear crawls, maybe the combination would be more enjoyable.  Probably not.

Arrived at 4:45am because I wanted to explore a different part of DT considering I haven’t been at that AO too many times, and there are so many cool areas nearby.  I jogged across the bridge to the baseball fields by the beach and the whole area looked flooded, so I scrapped that idea and decided to set up all the Thangs in the Rotary Hill park.  Jogged back, put some cones out in the field, some cones on the hill and was ready to go.  My shoes were already SOAKED from the morning dew.  The PAX was going to hate being in the grass…oh well!

Arrived back in time to see Scotts scaling the backside of the hill looking for me.  When he saw the cones in the field he muttered something about not having waterproof shoes, but he stopped when he realized I didn’t have any sympathy for him.  Corningstone then found me and tried to persuade me to avoid Indian runs this morning, but he knew I wasn’t going to budge.

Everybody else trickled in, including Trickle who I hadn’t seen in a couple months–I love seeing familiar faces when I come downrange!

A comfortable 57 degrees and lots of gloom…we were ready to go!

The Thang

Thang 1: Indian Run, Pearls on a String

Run 1/4 mile, stop and do Merkins, Bobby Hurley’s and Grady Corns (9 each)

Run 1/4 mile, stop and do Merkins, Bobby Hurley’s and Grady Corns (18 each)

Thang 2: Burpee Bear “9’s”

Cones set 50 yards apart.  On one end, do one (1) Burpee Bear (perform a burpee, but bear crawl 5 steps before popping up off the ground), run down to the other end and do eight (8) big boys.  Run back and do two (2) burpee bears and seven (7) big boys, then 3/6, then 4/5…and so on, similar to 11’s.

Thang 3: FORE! on the Hill

Mosey to top of the hill and all PAX hold low plank.  One PAX yells, “FORE!” and everybody runs down the hill to the cone (about 40 yards), performs 9 merkins and 9 big boys, then sprint back to the top and return to plank position.  Once all PAX return, hold plank until somebody else yells, “FORE!” and repeat 4 times.

Then move to the cone at the bottom of the hill and all PAX hold low plank.  One PAX yells, “FORE!” and everybody Bernie Sanders’ up the hill to the cone (about 40 yards), performs 9 merkins and 9 big boys, then jog back to the bottom cone and return to plank position.  Once all PAX return, hold plank until somebody else yells, “FORE!” and repeat 4 times.

Circle of Trust

During my COT I talked about a personal situation that has been challenging me for the past 6 years and I expressed how thankful I am for it to have seemingly passed.  I also discussed how, despite how difficult it was, there were many benefits I took from this hardship.  I believe it is important to look for the benefit in every situation, even the most difficult and challenging ones.

Naked Man Moleskin

“If I knew we would be in the grass, I would have worn different shoes.”

“Your preblast said, ‘Be ready to move,’ so I thought that meant we would be on the pavement.”

“I wish I had worn my waterproof shoes.”

“You want us to do big boys in the wet grass?”

“I hate golf.”

Ahhh…the sounds of a successful Q!  Thanks to everybody for another fun morning downrange at Dark Tower!!
