Circle of Trust

I have joked with some HIMs that I’m living my best life in this COVID-19 craziness, which has our world turned sideways …  Here’s what help me …

A Lesson in Stoicism (building on Hootie’s CoT from 25 August 2020 at Iron Lion)

  • We don’t control, and cannot rely on, external events
  • We control, and can only rely on, ourselves and our responses

What YOU Are and Are Not…

  • You are not
    • Your job
    • Your title
    • Your car
    • Your bank account
    • Your clothes
  • You are
    • What’s in your head
    • Your decisions
    • Your demeanor
    • Your character

What Do YOU Do in Times Like These?

  • Rely on SELF, not others nor org charts
  • Premeditate Worst Case Scenario
    • PREPARE your response ahead of time
      • Worst case – you’re ready for it / best case – the worst never happened
  • LOVE EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS
    • Blazing fire makes both devastating flame and illuminating brightness out of everything thrown into it (paraphrasing Marcus Aurelius, Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher ~ check out his book Meditations)
      • Takeaway: Choose to be illuminated, not devastated
    • HIM going through rough spot commented that even “rocks get worn down over time too…”
      • Yes, but a worn rock just gets smooth – the goal of every rock! (Ebeneezer, F3 philosopher)
        • Which would you pick up (which catches your eye)?
          1. Lumpy craggy rock
          2. Smooth shiny rock
  •  KEEP MOVING

Prayer requests for Cousin Eddie’s mother, who injured her back.  Prayer requests for Flush and his family, and all those confronting COVID-19 or having to preventatively isolate.

  • Silent Prayer.

Naked Man Moleskin

Great effort all around to kick off the 2020 Iron PAX Challenge.  It’s all about do YOUR best and leave the rest ~ the competition is ultimately with yourself.  We can support each other too, in order to all get better.

Living that was Hootie, who throughout was shouting motivational comments, and more than one PAX commented how those were helpful for them.  There were other too for sure, but somehow Hootie’s voice cut through the gloom. House Arrest, Hootie and Baby Hands did very well in this challenge – even more, they finished and returned to the exercises to push other PAXs along!

The newer HIMs are jumping right in and pushing hard, and Iron Lion’s long-time HIMs are there to support.  Dorn was solid on form every time I looked, as was Mr. Nice Guy, Riunite and Bandwidth.  ChainLink, Mr. Burns, Cousin Eddie and Rainman can move!  Goldberg continues his journey into beast mode, getting faster and better every damn time he’s out ITG.  Belichick showed no indication that he was rehabbing a knee injury over last few months – we all want to be that guy at 61 (Respect, Respect). Everyone pushed, but the hardest push might need to go to Wine in a Box – as evidenced by the sweat he wrung out of his shirt as we all chatted afterwards! I think YHC was the only PAX to take a break (my excuse was to put one Baby Hand’s chosen tune to drive him through the end of round 4 – but honestly, YHC needed a little recovery time before that last round).

TUNES: Our HIMs came up with an all-star tune line-up (in case anyone wants to pull these down:

  1. Get Loud for Me, Gizzle – Baby Hands
  2. Symphony of Destruction, Megadeth – Cousin Eddie
  3. State of Love and Trust, Pearl Jam – Goldberg
  4. Lido, Box Skaggs – Riunite
  5. X Gon’ Give it to Ya, DMX – Ebeneezer
  6. Jump Around, House of Pain – House Arrest
  7. Hells Bells, AC/DC – Hootie
  8. Welcome to the Jungle, Guns n Roses – Chain Link
  9. War Pigs, Black Sabbath – Bandwidth
  10. Fred Bear, Ted Nugent – Wine in a Box
  11. My Kind of Party, Jason Aldean – Belichick
  12. The Man Comes Around, Johnny Cash – Ronda Rousey
