The Thang

THANG 1 – DON’T GET SMOKED by CHARLIE!! (Belching)

Belching – Pax lays flat on ground in a line, Q says GO. Everyone hops up similar to recovering from a burpee, and mozy’s or sprints until Q yells DOWN, (do exercises, 1 of them, IC or OYO depending), back flat on the ground, wait for next GO. Essentially, you’re advancing the field without the enemy fire being able to smoke you. Go hard, go quick but follow the Q. After getting to your resting place, wait for Q to call next exercise.

I explained the format, EXPLAINED EVERYONE ONCE I YELLED DOWN HAD TO GET THEIR BUTTS ON THE GROUND OR THE ENEMY “CHARIE” WOULD SMOKE THEM. We mozy’d out stopping about 10x for a variety of exercises all IC and waiting for the six. Traveling only on grass fields, up over hill, or along running paths.

At certain points once we’d DROPPED down to our stomachs, we’d EVEN UP the line, i’d Yell EVEN UP W/ Q or another PAX’s name, and everyone would army crawl forward or backward to that person’s position to form a somewhat straight line.

Final challenge was to get over the fence line at baseball field, baseball field was safe zone.. DON’T GET SHOT IN THE ASS BY CHARLIE GETTIN OVER THAT FENCE!!! Pax took turns jumping the chain link fence 1 at a time then laid down on stomachs in baseball field.

Circle of Trust

This week was a reminder to me that I’m capable of MORE physically, mentally, socially in terms of reaching out to other men on my team. I made a goal that I was going to push as hard as I could to get all the daily points each day, and I only missed a few. So I feel like I accomplished that. We won’t be the winning team and you may not be on the winning team either but that wasn’t the point. The point was to get more guys out. To get guys that had come before but had been absent BACK out to be competitive and make connections. Guys like Clear Coat absolutely crushed that this week bringing all kinds of guys out into the “The Gloom”. I ran, rucked, posted with guys I’d never met this week and I visited AO’s I hadn’t ever before.

A challenge like this week pulls us out of our comfort zones, out of “comfortable” and into “uncomfortable”. My goal moving forward is to remind myself that it’s in the “uncomfortable” space where I grow.

If my legs hurt and are uncomfortable at the end of the day. I must be doing it right.

If I’m nervous and uncomfortable pulling into a parking lot of a DR AO or one where I don’t know anyone who HC’d. I must be doing it right.

If I’m raising my hand for a future volunteer opportunity where I may not know what I’m doing. Good. I must be doing it right.

If I introduce myself to someone at a boot camp not knowing what their response will be. Then good. I must be doing it right.

We’ve gotten comfortable in the uncomfortable this week. Remember the feeling and don’t stop. Keep feeling uncomfortable. Keep pushing. Keep grinding.

Thanks for playing along this morning guys. I had fun with it hope you did too. Please drop me an AAR. I need to remember to ask at the end. And my cadence starting could have been better.
