Introduction

I pulled into the Outpost at 4:50 AM this morning for 2 reasons.  First, I wanted to check the parking lot and running routes for potential ice.  Second, I have lived in the western suburbs for 10 years and I still have no idea how long it takes to get anywhere.  So sure was I that the Outpost was just shy of Iowa, that I left my house at 4:35 AM.  Despite my early arrival, the flag was flying and Blues Clues was running all over the place checking for dangerous terrain.  That is a gentleman, right there!  Nicely done BC and thank you for making me feel so at home.  And in case you were wondering, a roughly 3 mile radius extending from the exact middle of my Q was caked in solid ice.  Regardless of the danger, 12 Pax joined me for a little muscle work and much less cardio.

I think Mary is dumb and try to avoid it at all times.

Circle of Trust

A couple of weeks ago, I was at Catholic Mass (pause and wait for everyone to be thoroughly impressed by your piousness) where the priest told a story about punching his childhood bully.  He told the congregation about how he got the son of bitch with a liver punch and dropped him like a bad habit.  Needless to say, I was enthralled up to this point but quickly drifted off when the subject changed to behaving well and being “good”.  It did trigger a lovely memory of a liver shot I was a part of though.

As a former boxer, my clearest memory of a liver shot was being on the receiving end of one.  An absolutely lovely fighter from England by the name of Lawrence dropped me with the cleanest shot you could ever imagine.  Did I hit the canvass?  Yes.  Did I gasp for air? Of course.  Did I cry a little?  You bet.  Did I poop my pants?  Enough of your questions already!   Now, I could have just stayed down and not pulled myself to my feet ready to fight again.  And that is exactly what I did.  It was awful and I certainly had no interest in having it happen again.  But, Lawrence helped me up, patted me on the back, and asked me what that smell was.  I was, as he often put it, a part of his “tribe”.  There were plenty of fighters in the world but there were a group of us that worked together, fought each other, yelled at each other but more often than not encouraged each other.

I couldn’t help but think of F3 and the similarities.  Yes, we are all in F3 and that is an awesome group to be a part.  But who is in your tribe? In my time here, I’ve met Skulls, Lions, Gazelles, Clydesdales, Westsiders, The 40 thieves, The Fab 5, The Black Diamond pretty pink baby girls, etc.  These “tribes” keep each other honest, encourage each other, push each other.  Accountability is personal but it’s a lot easier when you get a text at 4:30 AM making sure you don’t fart sack.  Find your tribe, hold some PAX accountable, and expect the same from them.

Naked Man Moleskin

For those of you who have not been at one of my Q’s, my playlists are a bit eclectic.  Today featured a lot of  70’s rock and funk.  This prompted Goldberg to ask, “So how were the 70’s?”  Hootie’s response was absolutely perfect.  “The 70’s were awesome! Everything, and I mean everything, was dangerous.”  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Hootie is national treasure.

This Blue Clues is a damn fine Site Q.  Look forward to working with you again soon.

Right after I said I went to mass during my CoT, Waterfall turns and asks, “Did the place catch fire? I’m guessing the place caught fire.” Well played, sir.

Once again Goldberg was hilarious with his, “Nacho, should we actually lock out on the merkins or just do them like you?”

Blues Clues won the OP Tire Throw contest edging out a valiant effort by Rhinestone.  Goldberg finished last, dead last.

Bootlegger showing up had to be the biggest surprise of my morning.  Thanks so much, truly appreciated it especially after you told me to F myself when I saw you yesterday and asked you to come to OP at 5:15AM.

Motown, the thrill you seemed to have when “Build a little birdhouse” by They Might Be Giants came on was refreshing.  The best though was how badass you were about it.  I can’t quote what you said exactly but you could have inserted a Public Enemy song title and not missed a beat.

The attitudes were so positive despite the lousy-ass conditions.  This morning was an absolute ball and I thank everyone who came.
