CLUB 365

About 2 months ago, I put my name on the Q sheet for today’s workout, in the event that if I was able to continue to make it out ITG that I would hit 365 consecutive days without missing a workout.  As I prepared for today’s workout, I really wanted to use the hill, however, the forecast called for rain all night and through the morning so I modified my workout to keep us on pavement.  I laid out the plan the night before and set multiple alarms as of days, I did not want to fartsack the morning of this event.  I did find myself walking up starting at 3am, checking the clock to make sure I hadn’t overslept.  Finally my 4:30 alarm sounded and I got up.  I checked the weather and it showed 48 degrees with a feel like temp of 43.  It was raining, and winds were 20 mph.  I pulled out a long sleeve shirt, got dressed and headed out to the car.  On the short walk to my car in the driveway, I felt the cold, wet wind rip through my attire so I grabbed my jacket from the back seat and threw it on.  I headed over to the church parking lot to set up the cones.  There were already cars in the lot as a handful of guys were already getting after it with an EC run.  Surprisingly the rain had stopped for our workout window.

Cars started filing into the lot.  Greetings were exchanged.  EC runners made their way back just in time for the start.  5:15 hit and it was ready to rock and roll.

Closing Thoughts and Prayer:

Thanks for the opportunity to lead you this morning and for all those that came out to support me and each other.

It has been 1 year, 365 days since I missed a day of partaking in an F3 workout.  I remember my last missed workout, it was May 28, Thursday at HH.  Lewinsky on Q.  I had been burning hot at the client that week, and one of the few times I did a SC as I knew I might not make it out.  As it turned out, I did not make it out.  Ironically, Lewinsky also SC’d for today’s workout and he was not able to attend.

The next day, I got back on the horse and posted again.  Little did I know a year later I would be here celebrating this 1 year milestone with you all.  It was not planned.  It was not a goal, at least originally, but as months went by, 6 months, 9 months, I did place it in my crosshairs.  It did take effort.  There were cold and wet days I did not want to get up.  There were days my body was sore and I was exhausted.  There were many days a few extra hours of sleep sounded great.  I could have taken the easy route and not shown up.  For me the getting up is still the hardest thing.  Followed by the workout.  But I don’t know about you, but after the workout I feel a swell of satisfaction and energy to propel me into my day ahead.

I have goals, and one of them is daily improvement.  I want to push myself to be better today than the day before.  I know that I will never be the strongest, fastest Pax out here, but as long as I am moving myself forward, in the direction of my goals, day in and day out I am positioning myself for success.

If you don’t know it, I am a numbers guy.  I like my stats.  I know some say stats don’t mean anything, and stats alone don’t.  But it helps align me with my destination.  They are measurements, a compass to ensure I am aligned with my destination.  I know the more I put into it the better I become.  A quote I found is fitting for my words and story:

With dedication towards a destination and some perspiration one achieves their realization.

I thank you all for being part of my journey this last year and over the 4 years I have been part of F3 – helping to push me and others toward our realization.

Prayers:

Prayers offered up for Half Price’s MIL and family as they deal with their loss, Carmen San Diego’s parents, and Serena’s FIL, those HS Seniors that are graduating on Saturday.

Naked Man Moleskin

What the heck – it is the end of May, is it not.  Today felt more like a late October, early November cold, wet, windy day.  I was not expecting to put on 3 layers this morning and experience cold hands through my gloves.  Hopefully this is the end of the cold weather for a while.

As stated previously, I truly do appreciate those that have been part of my journey to better myself and to all that continue to make F3 Naperville all that it is.

Until next time –

Handy Manny
