Introduction

Pulling into the Complex with a burner I wasn’t able to finish earlier this year.  Maybe because it needed to be the only thang.  It is 2020 after all.  We will be on pavement.  HC in the thread.

The Scene:  Low 30’s.  Clear.  Overslept but still managed to arrive early enough to measure out 100m and write out the list of exercises at each end.  Turns out that parking space lines are about 10ft apart.  100m is about 110 yards which is 330ft so I counted out 33 parking spaces. #MATH

I am not a professional.  You are here of your own free will.  I have no knowledge of any injuries or fitness considerations. It is your responsibility to be safe and modify exercises as needed.  Maintain 10-15 feet between you and the next guy at all times.  In cadence (IC) is the rhythm in between each rep or the body movement between each rep.

Warm-O-Rama

Motivators from 10

Moroccan Nightclub IC (4 count) x 25

The Thang

Millennial

Named as year 2000 – the time period around which the Millennial generation was born.

Normally we would partner up (as a team you would reach 2000 reps).  Instead we did this as a well spread out group. – 10 rounds, 10 exercises, 10 reps each, 100m run between each round.

Exercises are:

1) SSH

2) Lunges – each leg is 1

3) Merkins

4) LBCs – IC (4 count)

5) Mtn. Climbers – IC (4 count)

6) Flutter kicks – IC (4 count)

7) OPP – Overhead Claps while in People’s Chair and then Plank Jacks

8) Squats

9) Oblique Crunches – 5 per side

10) Burpees

The PAX made it through 7-8 rounds.  I think I may have to take out the motivators the next time.  Or maybe each exercise is a round and we do 100 reps.  Worth exploration.

Mary:

Blades of Steel IC (4 count) x 5 plus held in low position for 30 seconds – Start in plank position with hands directly under shoulders, keeping arms as straight as possible. Slowly perform merkin with only your shoulders doing the movement, no bend in your elbows. At your lowest position your shoulder blades are close together, with elbows and back still straight. Slowly raise your body with only your shoulder blades pushing away from your spine. Your shoulder blades will be slightly rounded at top once complete. Suggested to move slow.

My FNG day was October 17, 2018.  Right here at the Complex.  I had wanted to celebrate in the gloom but I contracted Covid by letting my guard down.  Some of you may have been there for my FNG day and know why I have the name Cousin Eddie.  But even if you were there, I never got to finish my most embarrassing story.  If I had, I wonder if I would have received a different name.

So as we do, I said my given name, age, favorite movie, and then most embarrassing moment.  Mine is from Jan. 2, 2016.  I was taking down Christmas lights from the garage.  My wife said she wanted to spot me but I said, “No” it will just take a minute.  I scurried up the ladder and started removing the lights.  As I was up there, I had an “oh shit” moment that I was going to fall.  Something felt wrong.  I must have put the ladder on a spot of black ice because in that moment, the ladder slid with me on it straight down.  Thankfully I let go of the ladder before it hit the ground otherwise I think I would have broken my fingers.  When I landed I rolled onto my back.  Both my wife and my neighbor came running to me asking if I was ok, I laid there and said I wasn’t sure.  My last name is Clark, so it went to Christmas Vacation.  There was already a Griswold at the time so it naturally fell onto Cousin Eddie as my F3 name.

Now to finish my story.  Fast forward a couple months.  Originally I was put in a sling for two weeks for my shoulder and I thought everything was fine.  My son had won a “Gym night” at his school for selling the most Cub Scout popcorn.  Activities included hockey and dodgeball.  As I was throwing dodgeballs, my right arm started to feel more pain and become more difficult to lift.  I shook it off, switched hands and continued to play (of course).  I had torn my rotator cuff over 70% and needed surgery.  The first doc put me under the knife right away without any therapy to regain my range of motion first.  That was March 2016.  At some point in June/July I re-tore my shoulder in therapy and needed a revision repair.  I got a new doctor and had my second surgery in October 2016.  At the same time, my Mother in Law fell ill and ultimately passed on October 17, 2016.

So my most embarrassing moment for me was tearing my rotator cuff while hurling dodgeballs at a bunch of elementary school kids.  When I first started F3 (2 years after my surgery), I could barely do one pushup because of my shoulder.  While I still struggle, I have improved more than I ever could on my own.  That’s one of the powers of F3.

Let us pray.  Lord grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And the Wisdom to know the difference.  Amen.

Peace,

Cousin Eddie
