Introduction

I arrived on site around 4:40am to scout the ice on the paths and set up the Wolf’s Den with lit up cones. Sparkler was next on the scene sporting a big ole Carthage College hoody. I went to Elmhurst College, we both played football/baseball so started some mumble chatter on the CCIW (Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) before the rest of the HIM’s arrived…

Disco Ball was just coming in hot from North Dakota, Uncle Rico from a trip out East and Baby Hands from a major calorie deficit.

I’m not usually as directionally challenged but I told a the PAX the flags would be on the West side of the parking lot however sneakily/subconsciously/accidently posted the flags on the East side. Welcome to Black Diamond. An estimated burner of 4 miles, 200 wolf burpees and a 100 yard up and down bridge bear crawl awaits in the next 60 minutes into the heart of the wolf den.

Today would be all about this pack of 10 and 1 alpha mentality…

Warm-O-Rama

  • SSH
  • 25 Wolf Burpees (1st Burpee has a merkin with a closed grip, 2nd burpee has a merkin with a wide grip, repeat the alternating merkin grips)
  • Arm Circles
  • Hold Plank for Black Diamond version of a Pre-CoT. (Mentality and Stability Prep. Shared poem “The Fray” during plank)
  • Quick Mosey (2 lines formed for half a mile mosey to bridge, Westbound)

The Thang

#1 Wolf Pack

  • 50 Wolf Burpees OYO – SSH to six
  • Bear Crawl Indian Run – PAX form two lines at base of bridge. Bear Crawl as team, Indian Run style to middle of the bridge. SSH to six.
  • Once all PAX reached the middle of the bridge, Crawl Bear (Backwards) Indian Run across the entire remainder of the bridge. Alternating squat holds and planks to six.
    • Extra communication on point due to ice, distance, visibility, etc
  • 25 Wolf Burpees OYO. SSH to six.

#2 Wolf Hunt

  • This is a chase, a hunt to Wolf’s Crossing Hill.
  • 1.5 mile run, mostly ice path
  • Once PAX arrived to the base of the hill, we went in for the kill.
  • 75 Wolf Burpees on the spot
  • Alternating squat holds and planks to six.
  • 2 mile run back to the flags to the Wolf Den

#3 Wolf Den

  • PAX arrived at 6am to the Wolf Den. These exercises have been saved for the next BD hunt…

Circle of Trust

There was a lot of drama in this country yesterday. (Capitol being rushed, etc)

You can choose to get lost in it, react to it negatively, positively, etc. You can ignore it or you can do something proactively about it.

Today’s Black Diamond was inspired by the movie, The Grey. It’s about a man who at the beginning is about to give up. Mainly on himself. Then, when faced with adversity, a plane crash, cold, dark, wolves, the wild, death…he finds his is more willing to fight for what’s right. His life.

We know this…

When the stuff hits the fan, that’s when we find out more about ourselves. That’s when we best discover the truth. To do what’s right.

In light of yesterday’s drama…find your purpose gentlemen, do what’s right, and never give up on that or yourself. No matter what. Give your all to do what’s right. Just like you did at this Black Diamond for over 4 miles and more today.

I’ll leave you with a poem from the movie:

“Once more into the fray, into the last good fight I’ll ever know. Live and die on this day, live and die on this day”

Prayers.

Naked Man Moleskin
