Introduction

Preblast was written, and hinted at shoulders, but no coupons… YHC was sort of pleased to see that there were only a few HCs, because pavers were going to be on the menu for the day.

Going to bed, seems like the morning temperatures were going to be in the upper 20s, perfect weather for a beatdown. YHC was glad he confirmed this morning – it was blustery, and the temps were in the teens – so feels like single digits. BRR!

Threw on an extra layer and saw Bartles and Jaymes was dealing with 2.0s and then got a message that Ken Doll wouldn’t be there, so that meant there would only be 3. Makes packing pavers into the car a breeze!

Got to the AO about 5, unloaded the pavers and waited for pax to arrive.

Before long, Snorkle pulled in, followed by Flea Market.

5:15 hit, and we were chilly, so no messing about time to get after it.

Principles and Disclaimer were recited and off we went!

Warm-O-Rama

Originally planned a slightly different WoR, but the windy weather demanded a bit more intensity to get bodies warmed up so we did

30 SSH in Cadence – speed up every 10

Capri Lap

20 Abe Vigotas

10 arm circles in Cadence both forward and backward

10 Burpees on my down – fast feet between burpees.

The Thang

YHC wanted to cover a bit of distance, and planned on Indian Runs, however, with 3, modified a bit, and just set off on a fast mosey around the parking lot to the drive, and then the pavilion between the baseball fields.

Watch out for ice! Warm temps yesterday melted, and then things were refrozen, so there were some slippery spots.

On arrival, and after a quick 10 count to recover, PAX completed 20 decline Carolina Dry Docks OYO, then the mosey continued south to the path, then halfway (at the joint) up the bridge.

The next thang on the menu was 11s – big boys at the halfway up point, and more Carolina Dry Docks at the bottom. Big Boys had to be completed with feet up hill to add a bit of a decline element to it. Oh… on a side note here – Snorkle is a beast!

After 11s were complete, we moseyed on the path back to the pavilion, and after a 10 second recovery 10 more burpees – this time a hand release superman burpee. So on YHC’s down, pax would hand release, then alternate a ten count holding superman, then back to feet.

Time to mosey back to the lot. Pavers were grabbed, and we moved over to the pavilion.

At the pavilion, the shoulder torching commenced with:

Jack Webs to 5 (with pavers)

Y-T raises in lunge position (with pavers) – 1o in cadence each leg forward

Arm Circles (with pavers) 10 in cadence with thumbs up, 10 in cadence with thumbs down.

Time for mary – 20 American Hammers with pavers

20 LBCs

10 oblique LBCs per side.

Hold plank variations until 6 (about a minute)

Circle of Trust

YHC has felt that the stress of the pandemic and the sudden changes it has thrust on our lives, not to mention the rioting, the contentious election and everything else in the past year has put an extra burden on our shoulders. We have learned to adjust our lives to work from home, and the boundaries of work and home are blurred. Our kids are learning from home, so we are learning how to support them in that environment. Our holidays were different than tradition, causing change once again. Jobs are tougher, partially because of the lack of communication, partially because of the economic environment. Again – an extra burden being placed on our shoulders – hence the theme for the workout.

A Jewish Proverb – “I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.”

“Sometimes life puts two big weights on little shoulders and the reply of the little shoulders to this injustice is remarkable. To carry the burden with courage and dignity.” Mehmet Murat Ildan

The resilience of the HIMs in F3 is remarkable. In part because of the character of men involved, and in (a much larger) part because of the support that we have.

Prayers were said – we thanked God for our health, and our brotherhood, and prayed for our country to recover and once again find ways in which we can unite, while respecting the differing opinion of others.

Naked Man Moleskin

Favorite part may have been at the end of the workout when Snorkle said “I didn’t think these things would make my arms tired” in reference to the pavers. Those things suck. Thank you Handy Manny for the idea!
