09/16/2021 - Iron Lion - Anniversary Bash

Introduction

Iron Lion is turning two!  That’s right, two years ago the shovel flag was planted in Lisle to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men to invigorate male community leadership.  Come out and celebrate with YHC.  No coupons needed.  HC in the thread.

The Scene:  It finally happened.  A big crowd to Q.  36 more PAX joined YHC to celebrate Iron Lion’s birthday.  Have to admit that I was a little bit nervous.  On average there are 8-10 guys that join me in the gloom when I’m Q so this definitely put my logistical skills to the test.

Welcome & Disclaimer

Five principles of F3 were given.  I am not a professional.  You are here of your own free will.  I have no knowledge of any injuries or fitness considerations. It is your responsibility to be safe and modify exercises as needed.  In cadence (IC) is the rhythm in between each rep or the body movement between each rep.

Warm-O-Rama

Motivators from 8

Moroccan Night Clubs IC (4 count) x 20

Monkey Humpers IC (4 count) x 20

Count off by 3’s

The three groups lined up on the right, the left and the center.  With so many men, I kind of winged this first part and shoe horned my bone the fish idea into the mix.  In retrospect, maybe not the safest plan.  It looked like organized chaos.  I kind of wish I had video.

The Thang

THANG 1

Bone the Fish

Run the Trench – weave in between pylons with arms out like a starfighter

Hold Plank at the Goal line across the street (lighted cone)

Gunners – 10 American Hammers IC, 5 Burpees, sprint 50 yards (lighted cones), repeat, turnaround, repeat until you make it to the starting goal line Hold plank for the 6

Chilly Broad Jumps – pax get in chilly position (aka low plank) about 5 feet apart.  Broad jump over pax until we get to the other side.

Mosey to Octagon

THANG 2 – 99 problems

Wine in a Box has done this a few times and is one of my favorites.  But instead of doing 3 rounds of 11 reps each, I made it one round of 33 reps each.

Carolina Dry Docks x 33

Newton’s Cradle IC (4 count) x 33

Squats x 33

Run the ¼ mile path from the Octagon along the base of the hill.

SSH for the 6

Jailbreak to the top of the hill, take a moment and see from the best spot of the best AO in the land.

This is the spot to use when you are late or lost and can’t find the rest of the pax.

Rebel run – 3 lines back to the flags

Mary

Flutter Kicks IC (4 count) x 20

LBCs IC (4 count) x 20

Heel Touches IC (4 count) x 20

COT

I wish I could remember the other names that were batted around for this AO.  We had looked at the history of Lisle and what this park was before it was a park.  The Lion finally became obvious when you look at all the buildings around here between the Sea Lion Waterpark and the Lion mural on the high school.  But the one thing I thought about was Pride.  Pride in what we are building in F3.  Pride in the good we are doing within the communities.

The idea of this AO started from a volunteer opportunity that Bob Ross and Rusty had put together in conjunction with a 5K fundraiser for a local organization.  Unfortunately I can’t remember which organization it was.  Within a couple months, Trickle as the expansion Q at the time, tapped Goldberg, Faceplant and YHC to be site Qs.  The rest as you say is history.  It’s always important to know where you came from so that you can know where you are going.

Does anyone else have anything to share?  PAX recounted a time when Baby Hands led the Iron Cross in about 18 inches of snow and how it seemed Patchouli just levitated on top of it all.

I’d like to end with a prayer normally said before meals but that I say at the beginning of each day as everything I am about to receive is a gift:

Bless us, O Lord, and these, Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Peace,

Cousin Eddie

Additional thoughts:

Nacho Libre had his own cadence for Moroccan night clubs.

Need to remember to bring the music with me when doing Gunners.  At one point we couldn’t hear it.

Need to remember to cut the music so I can be heard.  Had some confusion at the beginning of Thang 1.

Before calling jailbreak, I should have had the pax moving first.

On site coffeeteria was fantastic.  The donut eating contest was hilarious.  I know someone has a video of this.
