Introduction

It was a comfortable & warm morning as the PAX arrived bumping elbows to avoid human contact.  I jumped out quickly to direct the PAX to circle up with their coupons creating minimum of 6 FT of space between them & their fellow PAX to comply with social distancing.  Our coupons would represent our spots for the workout & allow us to keep our social distance.  During the mosey we would split in 2 different directions keeping the groups to under 10 PAX running.

After a quick warm-a-rama & a welcome to our FNG I explained the rules.  I would call on a PAX to choose a number between 12 from there I would pull out the corresponding sheet with that number (on each sheet was a rotation of 3 exercises w/ 17 reps per exercise).  Depending on the sheet it either had an Irish Curse (penalty) or Irish luck (a reward, kinda).  After the exercises were completed the PAX would do a small lap around the lot then we would rinse & repeat.

I got things started by calling the birthday boy Breakaway to pick the first number & of course it was an Irish Curse.  We were off & running!

Circle of Trust

We explained the rules to the FNG followed by count-a-rama.

Bedpan did announcements which was basically everything but bootcamp at this point is cancelled.

We followed that by the naming of the FNG who told a funny story about needing to use the restroom very badly when he got downtown that he walked in a restroom & immediately went into the stall.  While in the stall he heard the loud clacking of heels on the floor when he quickly realized he was in the women’s restroom!!!!!!!

SHANIA Twain wrote a pretty famous song called, “I feel like a Woman”

This morning I had planned to talk to you about heritage b/c my Irish heritage is important to me coming from both the Tohill side & my mother’s side of McCarty’s but I decided to change my message this morning based on the current situation we are in.  The message is different but still ties back to the great home of the Irish, Ireland.  About 10 years ago my wife & I wanted to start a family.  We tried having kids for a year or so before we found out that we were dealing with infertility issues.  It was a shock & a tough pill to swallow.  Over the next couple of years we did multiple rounds of IUI (the step before the costly in-vitro) but all attempts were unsuccessful.  This was mentally & emotionally draining.  I know many of HIMs here today have a mind-set like me.  We encounter a problem, we process the problem, we develop a solution, & we implement that solution to solve the problem.  This situation was unique though b/c this was a problem I could not solve for.  It found me feeling helpless & inadequate on what to do to fix this, similar to how many of us are feeling today in regards to COVID-19.  I learned three important lessons during this trying time in my life:  patience, listening, & empathy.  I found out that I don’t have to solve everything that half the battle is just being there for someone & showing you care & understand & not always trying to solve something.  I think we could all take these three lessons to heart right now.  We cannot solve COVID-19 (unless one of you is a doctor or scientist) but we can show patience to those around us especially our families as we are all confined together for long periods of time, you can listen to the needs of your significant others or others around you, & you can show empathy to those that are dealing with COVID-19 in a variety of different emotions.  The conclusion of this story is that I believe there is a bright light at the end of this COVD-19 just like what happened to my wife & I.  My wife & I traveled to Ireland about 8 years ago on a company trip.  We had just finished what my wife & I determined would be our final round of IUI (it had just got to emotionally & financially draining), it was either going to work or we were going to be the best Aunt & Uncle you have ever seen!  While in Ireland it was our time to take the test.  Early one morning I woke up, reached my arm over to hit my wife & said time to take the test & then I went back to sleep (you have to understand at this point we honestly had been disappointed so many times we thought it would never work so the anticipation was lack luster).  My wife took the test & came back to bed & fell asleep.  We woke a little bit later & I said “was the test no?” & she said to me I don’t know I did not look.  So I got up & went to the restroom to my surprise the test was POSITIVE.  I went in the other room & shockingly told my wife who immediately sat up & said GO BUY ANOTHER TEST THERE IS NO WAY THAT IS RIGHT.  I quickly through on some clothes & ran around the streets of Ireland looking for a pharmacy unsuccessfully for an hour before finding a store that sold tests.  We took the test again & it was positive.  The range of emotions were sky high but with patience, listening, & empathy our prayers were answered.  Just like I believe will happen in the situation we are currently in if we demonstrate these characteristics to our fellow humans.  That day we went to a local chapel & prayed for this miracle we received & later that day I found one of those “newsboy” style hats or flat hats that they call them & underneath that hat is one of my favorite blessings I leave you with today.

May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields &, until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand.  Amen!
