It was quarter ’til dawn,
all the pax fighting the fartsack
all the pax hitting the snooze
When the Q packed up his sled
Packed it with coupons, blockees and presses, swings, get-ups and woodchoppers too
All the things the pax expected him to do
But Three thousand feet up! Up the side of Mt. Crumpit,
He rode with his load to the tiptop to dump it!
The pax think that a coupon Q is coming, but coupons will be in vain
Today the Q brings a different sort of pain
They’re just waking up, they won’t  see what is coming.
They’ll find that 200meters out and back they’ll be running!
Their mouths will hang open a minute or two
Then the Pax will all cry is this an Ozark Q?!And 45 minutes later the Pax, with their Pax-feet ice cold in the snow,
will stand puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without Coupons. It came without blockees. It came without presses, swings or wood choppers. And they puzzled and puzzled ’till their whole bodies were sore. They could see the Q had thought of something he might not have before. What if the beatdown, he thought, doesn’t need anything more. What if a beatdown, perhaps, can happen with just what you are.

Circle of Trust

I’m starting my CoT with a confession. I’ve made religion pretty complicated for myself. My relationship with God, with the infinite ultimate truth of everything, with religion organized or otherwise has taken alot of different twists and turns over the years, and I’m sure it’s going to take some more. It’s something I struggle with, but I’ve come to see the moments of struggle as the healthier ones. At least insofar as it’s less a struggle against, but a struggle towards. We may not all know–or always feel that we know–what we are struggling toward, but I’ve found value in engaging earnestly in the work, in the struggle, to understand.

Yesterday, I read a little piece on a blog, which I shared on the 3rdF Channel if your curious to read it too, Titled “You are Religious” the basic thesis was, whether you admit it to others or even to yourself, you have a religion of one kind or another. It’s in the things you turn to, the things you give of yourself, and that you give your worship to. The subtle admonishment I took away was to pay some attention to those things and actively choose them, for they will shape who you will be in the days ahead.

So today I’m reminded to continue struggling toward a religion that will shape me into the man I need to be for my family, my community, my nation and my world. Looking around me this morning, it’s good to be surrounded by men who I’m pretty sure are going to do the same. Thank you.

Naked Man Moleskin

Clearly my sleepy brain didn’t want to do the running as I confused the pax by putting 100yards in the chat box while continuing to talk about 200meters…

I have mad respect for anyone who can plow into Mary and call cadence, I didn’t have the wind for it and punted to the interval timer.

Cool to meet Donner’s 9-year-old 2.0 who joined him in his garage this morning. Start ’em young!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those in our families and communities who are struggling with their health, the pandemic, and all the other hardships that life brings.
