Introduction

If You Aren’t In Over Your Head, How Do You Know How Tall You Are? – T.S. Eliot

16 of us woke up not knowing what lies ahead for us today. One man in that group truly had no idea how far he would be pushed and showed up anyway. It doesn’t take much courage to show up to your 100th/200th/357th post. It takes a lot of courage to show up to your first. Welcome aboard Cookie Monster.

Naked Man Moleskin

Over the last 3 years, I put a lot of my heart and soul into F3 naperville. It is an organization I have a lot of love for. There are men in the organization who have truly made me a better person. I’ve taken a step back over the last few months to get my mind right, it was a tough decision to make- F3 used to be that spot for me- to refocus, to recalibrate and to clear out the noise- but it was just not doing it. There were interactions that were draining me, there was planning and execution of the lincoln games that just sucked the joy out of the process, and then there was my new job, my family commitments, my mental health. Something had to give- and this was it. It was a hard decision, but made easier by some of the interactions I’d had over the prior months. I realized in order for me to succeed, I needed to take a step back.

We talk about this being a leadership group- and from the outside there are a few leaders who truly stand out- Guys like Ronda Rousey and the team who have done concierge are truly living third. Then there are guys who do it “quietly” by reaching out to others and checking in- I don’t think a week went by in the last few months when Appletini didn’t reach out to me. I’m sure I’m not the only guy he does it to. I’m grateful to guys like him, my shieldlock brothers, and others for keeping me in check.
