Introduction

Weather:  59F with 93% humidity…love Illinois summers.  But hey, the sun will be out shortly and it was actually a kickass morning.  And the humidity goes well with rubber pellets from the turf field (that’s a little foreshadowing).

No set up required for this workout so I arrived early for my usual pre-game ritual and was able to meet some new PAX as they rolled in.

Warm-O-Rama

Had planned to hit the road right away but our site Q had an injury and Townie stepped up to resume the duties but had to wait until he set up his shovel flag so WoR went a little like this:

In the parking lot:

  • SSH  20x (4ct)
  • Imperial Walkers 20x (4ct)
  • Burpees  5x (6ct)*

Moseyed behind the endzone at NCHS.  Made a quick check to see if we had access to the turf field but all gates were locked 🙁

  • Abe Vigodas 10x (4ct)
  • Copper Head Squats 10x (4ct)

Moseyed at a quicker pace to new turf field further south near the NPD facility:

  • Grady Corns 20x (4ct)
  • Arm Circles 10x (4ct) forward & backwards
  • Moroccan Nightclubs 10x (4ct)

The Thang

Thang 1:  Charles Bronson (did this one way back in 2018…it’s been a while)

  • OYO:  do an exercise, run 100 yrds, army crawl 10 yrds and mosey back to starting position.  Rinse & repeat
    • 50 SSH (4ct)
    • 50 Merkins
    • 50 Burpees
    • 50 LBC
    • 50 Jump Squats (were not done to ensure we had time to do Thang2)

Mosed back flags, PAX out front stopping along the way held plank positions to ensure the PAX stayed together

Thang 2:  Murder Hornets (shhh…it’s almost IPC time)

  • Lined up in parking lot with coupons and did the following until Mary
    • Murder Bunny 10x
    • 10 Man-makers (I still call them that but I think the true name is Blockee)
    • 10 Alternating Twist Lunges (5 ea leg)
    • 10 Big Boy Sit-ups
    • Rinse and repeat….think many completed 3 rounds

6 MoM

  • Alternating V-ups 25x (4ct)
  • Side Bridge Twist 5x (4ct) each side (Thanks Jeff Cavalier…that got the PAX’s attention!)
  • Side Bridge Pulses 10x (4sec holds, top leg up whole time…another PAX favorite)

Circle of Trust

CoR/Announcements/NoR/Prayer Request

Asked for prayer requests and then proceeded to have a senior moment as I forgot the “3 Simple Rules of Life”.  I remembered one of them (#2) and it turned out to be important enough to spend a minute or two discussing.  I shared these with my daughters:

  1.  If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it.
  2.  If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.
  3.  If you don’t step forwarded, you’re always in the same place.

Of course, I remembered the less important, albeit funny 3 rules:

  1.  Always look cool
  2.  Never get lost
  3.  If you get lost, always look cool

I reminded the guys to always listen to the CoT and the messages that we all share and don’t be afraid to bring home a few of these to discuss with your kids.  They need our time and guidance more than ever.

Naked Man Moleskin

*My apologies to Curds.  I had an idea as I was doing SSH during WoR, that I would have all the PAX do 5 burpees per fartsack.  I realized that Radio Flyer was out with an injury but I had not noticed that Curds had to pull his HC due to a sick kiddo.  Life happens and our guys were, as Bob Ross says, “right where they needed to be”.  It was all good though as Sparky was really thankful for the additional work 😉

I thought the army crawl thru the endzone in dew-soaked turf was a nice touch as we were all covered in black rubber pellets for most of Thang 1.   But I think Thang 2 shook them all off, so we had that going for us.

Met some new PAX, everyone did well on the Thangs and we ended in a BoM for the first time in a while (for me anyway).  Awesome day and I always appreciate working out with you all!
