Introduction

PREBLAST – LA LUZ

9/24/2021 5:15 AM 😀🎉

@channel My happy place is La Luz on Friday morning! With the 5K up coming you can bet your ass running will be at a minimum. However, we definitely will need to get a good pump on so we fill out our little running tank tops. HC below for a chest and arms day at the happiest place this side of Disney! Music will be fun but weird and mumblechatter is highly encouraged! Coupons required.

And finally, we will have one hell of a relay race using some fun tools from the Nacho Libre junk yard!

Warm-O-Rama

Don’t put your hands down the entire time –

In cadence to 15 for each and don’t put your hands down the entire time – arm circles forward, arm circles backwards, seal claps, overhead claps, Moroccan disco dancers, pour your beer out

Abe Vigotas, Nacho-sytle (but Cousin Eddie told me I’m not really doing them correctly)

Good Mornings

The Thang

Thang 1 – Mucho Chesto with a Nacho Libre Twist

Call and response style 10 reps of each merkin style on my count

  1. Diamond
  2. Wide Grip
  3. Archer Left
  4. Archer Right
  5. Rocking Horse
  6. Tricep merkins – Carolina dry docks (modification)
  7. Dive Bombers
  8. Irkins
  9. Merkins
  10. 5 count slow motion

Thang 2 – Tire Toss relay, split into 2 teams

  1. Started with a crazy looking tire hand off Indian run.  Soon as you pass, you run to the front.
  2. The winning team got a 5 second head start in the tire toss relay race.  Each HIM had to discuss throw the tire, run up, throw again until they reached the cone at the end of the parking lot.  He then grabbed the tire, ran back and gave the tire to the next HIM to start.
  3. Losing team had to pick up the 100 lb fire hose as a team (couldn’t touch the ground) and run as a team around the parking lot twice.
  4. While HIMS were throwing tires, we did coupon work in slow motion – Curls, rows, 1 arm press, dark tower press.

Thang 3 – Ring of fire merkins

Everyone held plank while each HIM took turns doing 5 merkins of their choice.

Mary – Big boys, La Luz hammers, flutter kicks

Circle of Trust

You kind of had to be here for this one and I’m not real keen on sharing this one in writing.  Let’s just say, old Nacho Libre was a bit of a drinker and the story consisted of a drunken night, a guest house, confusion over which room was mine, confusion, fear, and a family legend being born.

The moral of the story was two fold.  First, I had to face the music and accept that I made a ridiculous mistake.  It ended up being nothing and has just led to a hilarious story.  As bad as things seem in the moment, you are just a few moments away from looking back on it and laughing.

Second, based on the mistakes I made over the years including this one, know when it’s time to ask for help.  Almost 7 years sober!

Naked Man Moleskin

The Thangs –

The tire Indian run was insane.  It turned into just a sea of bodies sprinting all over the place.  At first I thought it was a disaster but it ended up being a hilarious sea of bodies just running like crazy people.  It felt appropriate for La Luz on a Friday morning.

The tire toss saw a man down as Forest Gump pulled a hamstring.  He looked good leading Q source so I think he will back in short order with no long term issues.  Great attitude through the whole ordeal. Figure that, a marine who goes down and gets right back up?!

The ring of fire merkins was fun to see the different variations.  1 Bar doing slow motion, Laimbeer with the 1 arm Rocky style, Richard Simmons floated off the ground for like 9 seconds and did a patty cake routine which I’m still not sure was within the bounds of gravitational laws.

Take aways:

  1. Any post with Bob Ross feels a bit more special.
  2. East Side meets West Side – Having Cousin Eddie, Goldberg, Persian Kitten, Cable Guy, Unicycle, and Goldberg (sorry if I missed anyone) make the trip was flattering and appreciated. It was also a great feeling to hear the east side boys talking about the energy and how much fun La Luz is.
  3. Form is improving everywhere.  Baby Gloss and Unicycle stood out as significantly improved.
  4. Form was perfect in some cases.  Kudos to Cable Guy, 1 Bar, Clearcoat, and Goldberg on that front.
  5. Aladdin’s energy and attitude is so infectious that you can’t help but get swept up in it.  If you ain’t smiling when he’s around then get your damn head checked out.
  6. La Luz should do cadence in Spanish.  Just an idea but I think it would be cool and give a feeling of inclusiveness.  Plus, guys like me wouldn’t be able to go any higher than diez (joke stolen from Buttermaker).
  7. Because the numbers swelled a bit more than I had planned, my Q had to take on some quick changes. Never got to those other fire hoses or the sledgehammers but their is always next time!
  8. Cable Guy is a monster. He picked up a 100 lb hose and just tossed it into my truck.  I put it in there and it took me significantly more effort than it did for him.
  9. Sun Devil is such a great, quiet leader.
  10. I can’t wait for Richard Simmons to meet Muggsy.  It’s going to be like when Marvel Comic heroes cross over in the movies.  Thor meets the Hulk, totally epic.
  11. Music was drowned out by the mumblechatter but it ranged from Johnny Cash to Brittney Spears – Irish folk to ODB and plenty of 60’s soul.  It got weird.
  12. I spent my morning doing merkins and throwing tires, discussing stoicism and Marcus Aurelius, making ridiculous jokes about subjects not appropriate in mixed company, and connecting with high character men from every walk of life.  Can’t ask for much more.
